Lake Nakuru National Park is one of Kenya's most accessible and visually stunning safari destinations. The park surrounds the alkaline Lake Nakuru in the heart of the Great Rift Valley – a UNESCO World Heritage Site – and is most famous for the spectacular flamingo flocks that turn its shores a vivid, shimmering pink. It is also one of Kenya's key rhino sanctuaries, protecting both black and white rhinos.
Just 2.5 hours from Nairobi, Nakuru is the ideal first park for new safari-goers and a rewarding stop on any safari circuit. In addition to rhinos and flamingos, the park is home to lions, leopards, Rothschild giraffes, buffaloes, and over 450 bird species. The surrounding acacia forest and open grassland provide varied habitat that ensures exceptional game viewing throughout the year. Pair it with Lake Naivasha or Maasai Mara for the perfect Rift Valley safari circuit.
