4 Days Tsavo East, Tsavo West & Amboseli Safari from Mombasa

Description

This is the mirror image of our 8-day beach-and-bush safari - instead of ending on the coast, this one starts there. If you are already based in Mombasa, Diani, Watamu, or Malindi and want to add a proper safari onto your beach holiday without flying back through Nairobi first, this route picks you up straight from your coastal hotel and takes you through three of Kenya's best-known parks before dropping you in Nairobi at the end, ready for your onward flight home.

This is a private departure, with your own vehicle, driver guide, and schedule throughout. It works especially well for travelers who want to see Kenya's wildlife but don't want to sacrifice more than a handful of days from a coastal holiday to do it.

Itinerary:

Day 1: Mombasa to Tsavo East

Pickup from your Mombasa hotel by around 7:30 AM, heading to Tsavo East - one of Kenya's oldest and largest parks, known for its red-dust elephants and the historical notoriety of its man-eating lions. Game viewing en route to your lodge, check in, and lunch, followed by an afternoon game drive. Dinner and overnight at Voi Safari Lodge.

Day 2: Tsavo East to Tsavo West

An early game drive before breakfast, then the drive to Tsavo West, with wildlife viewing along the route. After lunch, the afternoon includes a visit to the rhino sanctuary, followed by a stop at a known leopard baiting site back at the lodge - sightings aren't guaranteed, but it's one of the better chances in the region. Dinner and overnight at Ngulia Safari Lodge.

Day 3: Tsavo West to Amboseli

After breakfast, a morning game drive includes a stop at Mzima Springs, where hippos and fish are visible through unusually clear water, with crocodiles and monkeys often nearby. You will continue to Amboseli, arriving in time for lunch at Manjaro Tented Camp. The afternoon game drive takes you across plains set beneath Mount Kilimanjaro, Amboseli's signature backdrop, with good chances of elephant, lion, cheetah, and buffalo around the swamp areas. Dinner and overnight at Manjaro Tented Camp.

Day 4: Amboseli to Nairobi

One last morning game drive before breakfast at camp, then check out and head to Nairobi, with lunch provided en route. You will arrive by around 4:00 PM, dropped at your hotel or the airport.

Best Time to Visit

June to October is the strongest window for all three parks, with clearer skies also improving your odds of an unobstructed Kilimanjaro view from Amboseli on Day 3.

Good to Know

The drive from Tsavo West to Amboseli is one of the longer legs of this route - some travelers prefer to spend the extra time in Tsavo instead if Kilimanjaro views aren't a priority for them. Let us know if you'd rather adjust the balance of nights.

Kilimanjaro's peak is often clearest in the early morning before cloud builds up later in the day, so the Day 3 afternoon game drive isn't guaranteed to have clear mountain views.

Groups of 3 or more should confirm final per-person pricing with us directly before payment, since rates scale with group size.

This tour ends in Nairobi rather than back at the coast - let us know if you need a return drop-off to Mombasa or one of the beach towns instead.

FAQs

Yes, pickup can be arranged from any of the main coastal towns - just let us know your hotel location when booking, as pickup times vary slightly depending on distance from Mombasa.

Yes, this is exactly the kind of trip it's designed for. It ends in Nairobi, close to the international airport, so it works well as the final leg before an onward flight.

Not guaranteed - cloud cover is common in the afternoon. Clear views are more likely early in the morning, which is factored into the itinerary timing where possible.
