Tsavo is Kenya's largest national park – a sweeping wilderness of red-dust plains, ancient lava flows, and thorn bush that stretches across 20,000 square kilometres. Divided into Tsavo East and Tsavo West, this is the park of the famous 'red elephants', whose dusty coat from rolling in the iron-red soil makes them unmistakably Tsavo. It is also among Kenya's most budget-friendly safari destinations.
Tsavo East is flatter and more open, offering classic savannah game drives where lion, elephant, buffalo, and giraffe roam freely. Tsavo West is more dramatic – volcanic hills, Mzima Springs (where hippos and crocodiles share crystal-clear pools), and the Ngulia Rhino Sanctuary. Its coastal proximity makes Tsavo the perfect bridge between a beach holiday in Diani and an inland safari. Ideal for families and budget travellers without compromising on wildlife.
